Is Defence Work in Australia a Good Career Move

When you ask most people about what they think Defence work in Australia involves, they will normal say being armed and going to war.  Whilst while enlisting in the military and going on to serve on the front lines, is an amazing patriotic thing to do.

There certainly is a lot more to working in the Defence Force industry in Australia then that, as there are plenty of business out there in the Defence Force sector that has built there businesses around supporting the Military.

Such as, Thales which is a global technology leader for the Defence & Security and the Aerospace & Transport markets. In 2011, the company generated revenues of €13 billion (equivalent of AUD 17.5 billion) with 67,000 employees in 56 countries.

Another example is Boeing, as part of the global Boeing Company, BDA employs over 1200 people at 13 sites across Australia. Their specialty personal specialty support high technology aerospace and communications systems for the Department of Defence, and help to boost the Australian Defence Force’s readiness to protect Australia.  Boeing Defence Australia is now recruiting for the position of Fixed Network Operator based in Canberra.

So as you can see, just by those 2 examples there are plenty of opportunities to work in a support roles with in the Defence industry.

There are currently 1,425 jobs (as at 6th January 2019) advertised for Defence Work on the Job board.  Some are direct  military roles, as a Security police officer for the RAAF, or a Public Relations Officer for the Army. But there are just as many support roles for companies like Thales, Boeing, or ConocoPhillips.

If you are interested in finding Defence work in Australia, it’s simple, visit the Job Board, and start looking for suitable positions that are being advertised, and start applying for them.

Keep in mind that in the current economic climate, applying for jobs is a numbers game, you need to be tailoring your CV and application to the specific vacant position you are applying for.  Make sure that you are applying for all positions that meet your criteria, it really comes down to the more your CV is out there, the more chance you have of finding the perfect next step in your career.
